Indian brands are born on Instagram and closed on WhatsApp. That is not a bug. It is how trust works when the customer wants a human to confirm size, shade, or “can you deliver by Friday”.
The bug is running three catalogues: a grid of photos, a chat, and a website that shows last year’s stock. Omnichannel selling means the conversation can happen anywhere and the order still lands in one system.
Softpage’s online store is that system. Social is the aisle.
What omnichannel is not
It is not “post the same creative on every network”. It is not a chatbot that pretends to be your cousin. It is not opening five marketplaces and hoping inventory maths itself.
It is: one product list, many ways to start the order, one place to see money and stock.
Instagram: discovery, not checkout
Use Instagram to show the product in real light and to collect intent. When someone DMs “price?”, you have two honest options:
- Send the store link to the exact SKU (best when the site is current).
- Close in chat and immediately enter the order in Softpage so stock moves.
Option 2 without a system is how you sell the same saree twice. Option 1 fails if the website is a dead theme. Keep the store alive; let Instagram be the hook.
WhatsApp: the closing room
WhatsApp is where Indian customers negotiate, send a location pin, and ask for a discount. You will not delete that. You can stop using it as the warehouse.
Practical rules:
- Catalogues in WhatsApp should be generated from the same SKUs as the store, or you will lie.
- Payments: prefer a paid Softpage checkout link over “pay this UPI and send screenshot”. See payments.
- If the customer is standing in the shop, POS or QR ordering is faster than typing a bill in chat.
Your website: the source of truth
The storefront is what a stranger can use at midnight when you are asleep. That is the point of ecommerce. It is also the page you send when you are tired of repeating the same size chart.
Write shipping timelines once. Put them on the store. Link them from chat. Do not invent a new promise per WhatsApp thread — that is how RTO starts. Delivery should match what the page said.
Marketplaces
Sell there if the fees and returns make sense. Do not let a marketplace listing become the only place a SKU exists. When the listing dies, you should still have a Softpage product with photos and a GST rate.
A weekly operating rhythm
- Monday: fix SKUs that went out of stock in the shop but stayed live on social.
- Wednesday: pick the three Instagram posts that will point to live products, not sold-out ones.
- Friday: count open WhatsApp “I’ll pay tonight” threads and either invoice them in the store or mark them lost in CRM.
CRM is the right home for wholesale and “dealer enquiry” chats that are not a cart. Commerce is the right home for a prepaid retail order.
How Softpage fits
One login for store, POS, payments, delivery, QR, and live CRM. You can still talk on Instagram. You should not need a second spreadsheet to know whether the yellow kurta is in the back room.
If you are starting from zero, follow how to start an online store in India, then add social links that point at real SKUs. If you already have a busy chat and a quiet website, fix the website first. Chat cannot scale; a current catalogue can.
The test
Ask a staff member who does not own the Instagram password to fulfil an order that started as a reel. If they need you to unlock a phone, you do not have omnichannel. You have a bottleneck named after you.
Put the order in Softpage. That is the whole article.
