QR ordering

QR Code Ordering for Retail and Restaurants

Let customers scan a QR code to view your catalogue and order — built for Indian shops, cafes, and restaurants on Softpage.

A printed menu goes stale the week prices change. A PDF on WhatsApp is better, until someone forwards last month's file. QR ordering on Softpage is a scan-to-open catalogue: the customer uses their phone, sees what you actually sell today, and can place an order against the same products as your online store.

Who QR ordering is for

Restaurants, cafes, cloud kitchens with a pickup counter, and retail shops that want a digital browse without forcing an app install. It is also useful for exhibition stalls and pop-ups where you will not deploy a full POS terminal. If the customer is already in front of you, QR is often faster than explaining your Instagram catalogue.

Softpage QR is not a separate menu product with its own prices. It is a surface on the same commerce catalogue. That is the difference between a marketing QR that opens a Google Drive folder and an ordering QR that can take a paid order.

How it fits with POS and payments

Staff can still bill on POS for customers who want a human at the counter. QR is for the rest. Payments close the order so the kitchen or packer is not waiting on a “I sent 200 on GPay” screenshot. For parcels, delivery takes over; for dine-in or pickup, the order never needs a national courier.

Practical rollout

  1. Keep the catalogue honest — 86 items that you cannot make.
  2. Print durable QR codes at the table, counter, or shelf, not a low-contrast photocopy.
  3. Test the scan on both Android and iPhone on shop Wi-Fi and on mobile data.
  4. Decide whether the QR is browse-only or full checkout before you train staff.

For a longer operating note, read QR code ordering for restaurants and local shops. Softpage CRM is optional here unless you want to follow up with dine-in guests as leads — see CRM.
